Dacey Haughwout
I began my pottery journey at an after school program at Manchester Craftsman Guild in 2005. There I volunteered for about 2 years and eventually got a job as a studio technician. I was privileged to work with many world renowned artists. Sometimes I can draw direct parallels to my own work and sometimes it is a faint memory that raises through process.

Lost In the field
Although I have never received a degree in art I have been producing pottery for almost 16 years. I have worked for many of the studios around the Pittsburgh area.
My 12 years of work at Zotter the Potter producing 10’s of thousands of the same shapes.
Unexplored
I felt defeated. I was unable to get into university. I had a job as a ceramic technician at CCAC Boyce but I had never been out west. I was looking for a university to go to for an MFA. I decided to ride my bicycle across the country in search of a university and also to see the ceramic centers that I grew up hearing about.

A very rough map
I began my journey in Pittsburgh and headed out west. There were many trying times, bear encounters, 10,000 feet elevation changes, scorpions, spiders, and wolfs. Many times I ran out of water and would hope to make it to the nearest town. I traveled over 5,000 miles visiting universities and studios along the way. So many beautiful stories that have not been told and so many stories that are wisps of memories.
